About this workshop
During a crisis, people will experience a range of reactions – physical, psychological, emotional and behavioural. This workshop provides participants with an understanding of psychological first aid and it’s application as a best practice response.
This workshop covers the challenges organisations and individuals face in a crisis, how to recognise someone in distress, what resources are available to support escalation and how to navigate these challenges and provide practical intervention techniques and support.
In addition, participants will learn self care strategies to maintain personal wellbeing.
What you’ll learn
- Experiences along the mental health continuum
- Current environmental challenges (e.g. COVID-19 stress)
- Psychological First Aid (PFA) model, including information and case studies on:
- The benefits of the model
- The do’s and don’ts when reaching out to someone in distress
- How to:
- Recognise distress
- Listen to distress
- Refer individuals in distress
- Self-care and looking after yourself
